“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

                                       -- An old proverb.

We, at Only Women, take such sound preachings seriously. So, on the 8th of March, we decided to play – we celebrated the International Women’s Day and Holi together. Women leaders let their hair down and assembled at a bungalow in Juhu in the designated dress code for the day – floral dress.

The celebrations were hosted by our member Ashmi Parekh at her home with the minutest detail being taken care of. She had made fabulous arrangements, pampering every member with special attention. Under Meri Kala Ka Jharokha, each member shared some talent – a poem written by her or someone else, a song on karaoke, an experience or a mock hosting of a television programme. With never ending starters and beverages being served amid laughter and jokes, playing Housie was a different experience altogether. After a sumptuous lunch topped by delicious desserts, it was time to play Holi, which we did with colours and flowers, smiles and joy. This was our Rangeeniyat section. Member Rinku Shah, an excellent baker, had brought some mouth-watering desserts that she had especially made for these celebrations.

Gifts were galore at this do. Pizuna Linens, the premier exporter brand of top-class linens, sponsored special gifts for Only Women members. Only Women is thankful to its Directors for their generous gesture. We also had a Secret OW Admirer Nazrana section, where each member brought a gift. And while leaving, each member picked up a random gift. Host Ashmi too kept top class cosmetics in baskets – members could pick up as many as they liked. Only Women too sponsored a gift for each member.

Author Kate Hodges has said, “Behind every great woman… is another great woman”. Here, we were many supportive women behind many accomplished women, celebrating, bonding, laughing, singing, playing and performing together.

Everyone left with a smile on their lips and a spring in their step, filled with the warmth of sisterhood, love and strengthened bonds.

Someone awfully clever has said beautifully, “Women’s friendships are the deep roots that often keep us standing in our darkest moments”.
