A DBS survey has revealed that 51% of employed women park their funds in fixed deposits and savings accounts, 16% invest in gold, 15% in mutual funds, 10% in real estate and only 7% in stocks. A report by NSO informs that only a fifth (21%) of the total amount of bank deposits in the country belong to women account holders, even though every third bank account is owned by a woman. These reports highlight that women investors are risk-averse and there are significant financial disparities between men and women in the country, especially when it comes to awareness and practices about savings and investments.
We, at Only Women, feel that financial strength and stability is the first step towards empowering women in their professional and personal journeys. Hence, we invited Chitra Iyer, Co-Founder and CEO of MFA Capital Pvt. Ltd. and a financial coach of 35 years to guide our members on the options available to them for savings and investments and the right mix to enable their financial security in the future. Chitra spoke on the topic ‘EARNING THROUGH INVESTMENTS: Are you saving and investing right?’ So informative was her session that the members decided to forego their bonding activities that were planned for the end of the engagement.
Our member Sapna Sharma, a Shambhala healer, later took a 15-minute session of healing and meditation for all – the members and the guests present.
